14.03.2003 - In 1999 a customer awarded MAN Turbo with this FCC Gas Concentration unit. Design and procurement activities started in mid of 1999. MAN Turbo shipped the whole project on time (2000). Bahrein´s Minister of Oil and BAPCO (Bahrain Petroleum Company) Chairman, officially inaugurates BAPCO´s new Gas Concentration Unit (GCU) Wet Gas Compressor.

The two stage wet gas compressor type RZ56-3+3 is a centrifugal compressor, intercooled directly driven by a condensing steam turbine. It is equipped with dry gas seals for gas tightness in operation. The pressure of the wet gas from the fractionary unit increases up to the higher GCU pressure at which product separation can occur. MAN Turbo also furnished the air-cooled condenser of the steam turbine.

This centrifugal compressor replaces eight reciprocating compressors by one large single, state-of-the-art turbomachinery. New economic and maintenance considerations in comparison to the existing plant support the decision of replace the compressors on site.
This new compressor is one core component of the FCC unit.
