Until the end of 2004 there was still one market for ocean-going cargo ships to which the two-stroke engine had not yet been introduced: i.e. the LNG market. This market has so far been dominated by steam turbines, but the first orders for two-stroke diesel engines were given at the end of 2004.
This paper will describe the application of ME-GI engines inclusive the gas supply system on a LNG carriers, and the layout and control system for both the engine and gas supply system.
